John Cena is currently enjoying a late-career resurgence as the Intercontinental Champion, having defeated Dominik Mysterio on RAW in front of an emotional hometown crowd in Boston. The atmosphere was electric as Cena delivered an Attitude Adjustment to retain the title in what could be one of the final championship matches of his legendary career.
On Jim Cornette’s Drive Thru, wrestling veteran Jim Cornette shared his belief that Cena’s IC Title win is more than just a nostalgic moment — it's a setup. According to Cornette, WWE may be preparing for a massive dream match between John Cena and Gunther, with the Ring General likely ending Cena’s reign.
Cornette suggested that Cena doing the honors for Gunther on his retirement tour would be the perfect way to elevate the Austrian powerhouse into a permanent main-event spot. He added that Cena’s previous match with Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza didn’t have long-term impact, but a loss to Gunther would.
“I would think the obvious thing is for Cena to put Gunther over for the Intercontinental title on his last night. That would actually do some good for somebody,” Cornette said.
John Cena’s final match on December 13 🎬🏆
The Cenation Leader will wrestle his last match on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington. His opponent will be determined through the Last Time is Now tournament.
So far, Rusev, Sheamus, Jey Uso, and LA Knight have advanced after intense matches on RAW and SmackDown. With big names in the mix — and rumors of Gunther’s involvement — Cena’s farewell match could become one of WWE’s biggest moments of 2025.
Fans now wait to see whether Gunther, a rising icon and heavy favorite, will be the one to end Cena’s legendary journey.
